Monday Night Football: 1984 Mississippi Valley State University Vs. Alcorn State University

The 1984 season was memorable for MVSU and ASU football as both clubs attracted national attention. The Delta Devils scored 628 points (an average of more than 57 per game) including two games in which they scored 86 and 83 points on Kentucky State and Langston University respectively. Both were undefeated, with Valley and its high-powered offense and Alcorn, with Marino Casem’s (ASU head coach) traditionally excellent defense, winning week after week this was a highly anticipated match up. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Itta Bena,MS but was moved to Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson,MS because of how many people were looking to attend. The announced crowd was 63,808 in a stadium that officially held around 62,000. Even the aisles were populated.
